This book had me hooked from the prologue to the end. It is one of the best that I have read in a while! Lydia has secured herself a nice job as an interpreter for the Navy yard and despite her rather shifty and uncertain childhood, her life is routine and secure. Then enters Alexander Banebridge, the man who both annoys and intrigues her. Bane, as he is known, continuously brings Lydia seemingly useless, unrelated articles and papers to interpret as a small side job.
However, the task is not as useless as it first appears. Bane is working towards abolishing the smuggling and distribution of opium, an addictive drug. Lydia soon joins Bane in his work, hoping to earn enough money to keep from loosing her apartment. It is dangerous, risky business, but Lydia is determined to prove to prove herself to Bane… because whether or not he wants to admit it,something is growing between them. Unfortunately, Lydia soon finds that she may have gotten in too deep when she finds herself fired and evicted. Bane has left town, and Lydia feels empty and alone… what now?
This book was well written with great characters. I was quickly drawn to the plot and attached to the characters. I honestly have no complaints whatsoever! This book is an excellent blend of adventure, mystery, excitement and romance. I would HIGHLY recommend this book!!
Note: I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. However, my opinions are my own.
