‘Passion’ Book Review March 4, 2013

thTitle: Passion: How Christ’s Final Day Changes Your Every Day

Author: Mike McKinley

Date I Finished Reading: March 4,2013

My Rating: 5/5

Some books have good content, but lack application, making them impractical. This is NOT one of those books. No, this is a book that is full of both wisdom, and practicality. By examining the details of Christ’s final day on earth, we see how they can affect our life in radical ways.

In this book Mike McKinley takes a look at the details of Christ’s final days from the garden of Gethsemane to the crucifixion. He often approaches them from an angle that we — or at least I– never have before. He helps us to see every aspect of Christ’s behavior during this time as an example for how we also should live. Whether that means we are more compelled to forgive, more encouraged towards faithful friendship, etc. He also uses characters from the story that we sometimes tend to overlook, such as the mourning women, Barabbas etc., to help us see our relationship with Christ in a whole new light.

Simply put, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone and everyone. Whether that be a sceptic, a new christian, or one more mature in the faith… it doesn’t matter. This book can help you see things in a new light, and give you food for thought.

‘Everything’ Book Review October 28, 2012

Title: Everything: What You Give and What You Gain to  Become Like Jesus

Author: Mary DeMuth

Date I Finished Reading: October 28,2012

My Rating: 5/5

” The more you dare to obey , the more you experience God.” (Page 177) . I believe that this sentence greatly displays the theme and message of this book. If we truly desire to experience the effect, satisfaction, peace , and joy of being a sold-out follower of Christ we much totally surrender EVERY aspect of our lives to him. We must relinquish control and allow him to lead our lives.

Mary DeMuth honestly, yet humbly discusses this point in her book. She does not claim to provide steps towards perfect Christianity, or even pretend to perfectly exhibit these things in her own daily life. She admits it is a daily, constant struggle to hand control over to God. However, it is profitable, and worthwhile.

I highly recommend this book as a recourse on complete surrender. I loved Mary’s humble, yet honest nature. A great resource!

‘American Patriots’ Book Review October 24, 2012

Title: American Patriots: Answering the Call to Freedom

Author: Rick Santorum

Date I Finished Reading: October 23,2012

My Rating: 5/5

“Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness”. These are the things that our founding fathers, and many radical patriots sought to both achieve and protect for us. But at what price? How often do we actually stop to appreciate our freedom and those who protect it? In this book Rick Santorum examines the lives of some less-than-famous patriots during the revolution, and what sacrifices they made to help receive this liberty.

This book was a very easy, eye-opening read. The book is divided into 3 sections, and 18 chapters, each chapter portraying another patriot, or group of patriots. Each chapter also has a bible verse relating to that person’s service or sacrifice discussed. I would recommend this book to any american, because it is very important for us to know what sacrifices were made for our freedom if we are to fully appreciate it and protect it.

‘ the Hiding Place’ Book Review September 27, 2012

Title: the Hiding Place

Author: Corrie ten Boom with John Sherrill and Elizabeth Sherrill

Date I Finished Reading: August 18, 2012

My Rating: 5/5

This book is a treasure. Truly. When I read about how sold out Corrie and her family was to the Lord, I cried. It is so very inspiring to read the account of women who loved and served their savior to the point of risking their lives.  The fact that through all they endured, they never once denounced their faith or turned from God is astounding. When I read this I became so convicted at how much I take my God and my freedom for granted. This book is a heart-touching, eye-opening true story that I think everyone should read.
